What I liked about the book was that it didn't paint a homogeneous, good-guys/bad guys picture of the French or the Germans, but allowed for depictions of decent and cruel people on both sides of the war. The characters weren't developed enough, the setting didn't give me enough detail to truly picture it and the things that happened were predictable. It was a nice change of pace for me and I really enjoyed the lighter, endearing and easier side to a WWII story that still had the depth and layers to make it an intriguing story for us.
